Taster pack of three Saida's Kitchen tagine sauces Can't decide? Try the taster pack. One jar of each style, £10.50.

Our hottest sauce is made with authentic Berbere spices, the classic Ethiopian spice blend. Onions, tomatoes, garlic and ginger cook down with chilli, cumin, coriander, fenugreek, allspice, clove and cardamom into a deep sauce with real heat. If you enjoy a bit of fire, start here.

It comes from Saida's family recipe and it is highly versatile. Simmer it with chicken, chickpeas, fish or vegetables, then serve with rice, couscous or injera flatbread. One jar serves three.

Saida's Kitchen began when Saida's daughter developed food allergies and Saida couldn't find a sauce she trusted on the supermarket shelf. So she went back to her kitchen and made her own. Read Saida's story

Lovely sauce

This is a really nice source that I used with some corn and some vegetables. It made a really nice dish for the family which we had with rice. It is not too spicy and does have a lovely rich taste to it. Overall, I will buy this again and can recommend it to anyone that is after a new source to try.

Great flavours - a little too hot for me

I tried this for something different.
I used it with venison meatballs as I figured they have a robust flavour for this sauce, which proved to be a good decision!
I also added some frozen chopped spinach (probably a dozen "balls", defrosted) to increase the nutritional value - plus, I just think spinach works very well in stew-type dishes!
All done in the slow cooker and eaten over a couple of days.
I really loved the overall flavour, but found it a bit hot for my taste, so I added some drinking yoghurt (Pakeeza is perfect) on the 2nd and 3rd days of reheating - simply stirred in after reheating - and that made it perfect for me.
Would use again, perhaps with beef and may try adding more veg, such as butternut squash and/or some potatoes as that would also help with the spice level for my taste.
I would definitely recommend this sauce and look forward to seeing more sauces from the African continent, which has so much more to offer us all.

Beautiful flavours

This caught my eye today so I thought I’d give it a try and it was beautiful! It was a good spice too - normally I find things that say ‘hot’ not actually that spicy but this was perfect. I’ll definitely be buying this again and get some for my mum as it’s vegan too which is great.

"Bold Flavours, Easy Dinners!"

"I was blown away by this Ethiopian-style tagine sauce! The mix of tomato, red chili,
ginger, and garlic creates such a rich, bold flavour with just the right amount of heat. I paired it with lentils and some roasted sweet potatoes, and it turned an ordinary dinner into something unforgettable. It’s comforting, vibrant, and so easy to work with—I can’t wait to try it with chicken next!"

Delicious meal!

I picked up this sauce on a whim, and I'm glad I did. It has a nice balance of sweetness and spice. I used it with chicken and vegetables, and it turned out great.

It''s ok

I thought to buy this for when I don't feel like cooking from scratch, and to stock up if it's good. The spicy level was ok, but it lacked flavour (for me anyway). I was underwhelmed by this sauce. I won't buy again.

Pleasantly spicy and very versatile

I used this sauce with some chicken, red onions, peppers and olives, simply cooking them together. It suited it very well and complimented the ingredients, adding a balanced and rich spice flavour, which wasn't too hot.

The sauce thickened up without becoming dry and it had a good viscosity for spreading the flavour into ingredients.

Delicious

I received the Ethiopian style tagine sauce.

It's delicious, works super well with lamb, and that's coming from someone used to spices and quite high standards with this stuff, but can honestly say it was delicious. Has a deep earthy taste, a slight sweetness and tang from the lemon juice, more tomatoey than curry sauces but with a nice depth and complexity.

Can definitely recommend, and looking forward to try marinating some chicken wings with it.

Delicious - I'll be buying more of this

I love making tagine so when I saw this Ethiopian style hot spiced sauce I was very excited to try it and I loved it. It is delicious; it’s hot and spicy without overpowering the amazing flavour. It’s so easy to use too; you simply need to heat the sauce up and add it to your chosen cooked protein. I added chickpeas and sweet potato to the sauce and it was absolutely delicious. I would buy it again and, now that I’ve tried it, I will be ordering the better value multipacks.

Pleasant hot spiced sauce

A very nice spicy cook-in sauce that adds a nice flavour to a dish. It is also gluten free (and vegan) which means I can actually eat it which makes a pleasant change. It adds a good flavour without being too over powering. Will definitely use again.

Rich depth of flavour

Served with cous cous, some flatbread and chicken as the protein, this made a quick and flavoursome meal. The sauce has a nice consistency and is packed full of flavour.

It’s moderately spicy and this is balanced by a nice bit of sweetness.

Once the multipacks become available I will definitely purchase this myself.

This sauce is yummy. It’s got a rich, authentic flavour, perfectly spiced without being too overpowering. I love that it’s gluten-free and vegan, so it’s great for everyone in my household. Made dinner super easy and super tasty.

Delicious

I used this with some diced Lamb shoulder, literally sealed off the meat then simmered in the sauce. I added some coconut milk for a slightly thicker, creamier taste but that is just me. Easy to use and handy to have in the cupboard.

Great to see Ethiopian sauce in Sainsbury’s

My wife is Ethiopian by birth, so was great to find a sauce made with Berbere. Made it into a tagine with chicken, chick peas and spinach. Excellent!

Great sauce with a spice kick

Bought this a couple of days ago and made chicken in it, one of the best versions of Tagine I tasted, can’t wait to try the other one now.

Why have I not tried Ethiopian food before!

This was amazing. I've just cooked up a load of veg, added some king prawns, and then the sauce. Served with rice, this was an amazing burst of flavours and spices. This will now be on my weekly shopping list!

Saida holding three jars of Saida's Kitchen sauce behind a bowl of prawns and rice

Our story

It started with her daughter.

When Saida's daughter developed multiple food allergies, every label became a question. Saida searched the supermarket shelves for a sauce she could trust and couldn't find one. The bold African flavours she grew up with weren't there either.

So she went back to her kitchen. Saida grew up between East Africa and Italy, in a mixed-race family where food became the language that brought everyone together, and learned to cook beside her grandmother. She started making sauces from those family recipes, first for her own table, then for every family that wanted a better choice of sauces.

Every sauce is made as nature intended, with no added sugar, preservatives, additives, artificial colours, flavourings, milk, nuts, gluten or E numbers. The only sugars are the ones that occur naturally.

These flavours were too special to keep in the family. They were made to be shared.
